National language: Spanish, although English is widely spoken at resorts and in major tourist destinations.
Currency: MXN (Mexican Pesos). We recommend you bring USD (US Dollars), which are widely accepted around the island.

Legal wedding requirements
- Couples and their four witnesses must arrive in Mexico at least three business days prior to the wedding; four days are recommended if the couple’s documents have not already been translated into Spanish.
- A completed application form obtained in Mexico at the Registry Office. This includes a statement on the couple’s future assets and property
- Valid passports for the wedding couple.
- Birth certificates for the wedding couple (original and apostilled).
- Tourist Cards (issued during the flight). Names on the tourist cards and passports must be the same.
- Health Certificate stating no contagious disease. Blood tests are required to determine blood type, HIV and STD status. Blood tests will be taken at your resort.
- Four witnesses (Required documents for witnesses: copies of valid passports, Tourist Cards. Witnesses must also be 18 years of age and present at time of the ceremony)
- If either party is divorced, they must present either a certified copy of the Divorce decree, duly legalized and translated into Spanish by a Mexican Consulate with jurisdiction where the divorce was filed.
- In some states, parties who have been divorced cannot marry until one year has passed since their divorce was finalized.
- If either party has been widowed, they must provide a certified copy of the death certificate duly legalized and translated by the Mexican Consulate with jurisdiction over the place where the spouse died.
- Written parental consents for couples under 18 years old (original and apostilled).
- Documents must be presented before the Officer of the Civil Registry in the city or town where the ceremony will take place. Regulations vary based on the state and applications must be completed in person.
