Must-see events during your Jamaican getaway
Have you ever wondered what an all inclusive vacation in Jamaica could have in store for you? There’s always something exciting happening on the island of One Love but we thought we’d take a moment and share some of our must-sees for those planning on making this paradise their own. Whether you’re looking to tantalize your tastebuds (and they want to be tantalized), sway like the palm trees to reggae tunes or learn more about the island’s colourful past, time your getaway to Jamaica to join in on these tropical celebrations!
Carnival in Jamaica
April 21 – 27
First up, Jamaica’s Carnival is basically what would happen if joy, music and sequins decided to throw one massive party – and everyone’s on the list. These festivities are about one thing and one thing only, celebrating Jamaica’s good vibes! The streets are filled with dancers whipping out moves you’ve (probably) never seen before, costumes so bright they'll fix your winter blues and music that you’ll be shamelessly Shazam-ing to add to your own playlists. You can find celebrations happening during this time in Ocho Rios and Montego Bay but the biggest party happens on the streets of Kingston! Consider this your official invite but don’t worry, you don't need to know how to dance – enthusiasm counts for more than talent here.
Reggae Sumfest
July 13 – 19
Speaking of music, Reggae Sumfest is like Coachella's cooler, more laidback cousin who actually knows how to have a good time. Held annually in Montego Bay, this festival is the crown jewel of the island’s music events where reggae legends and up-and-coming artists come together to create what can only be described as pure magic, uniting fans from around the world in celebration of the island’s rich musical heritage. It’s not just good tunes and good times - you can immerse yourself in Jamaican cuisine, arts and feel the locals’ warm hospitality. Get ready for seven days of rhythm, culture and really, the proof that Jamaica does music better than anywhere else on Earth.
Mobay Jerk and Food Festival
August 1
Now, if your love language is food (and honestly, whose isn't?), the MoBay Bay Jerk and Food Festival is basically heaven on earth with a side of rice and peas. This event is perfect for the whole family with activities like eating contests (you can make a career of this…), bounce abouts (the technical term for bouncy castles apparently), ball pits and face painting. You can’t have any sort of festival in Jamaica without music and this one’s no exception with performances from top acts on the island. It’s an entire day dedicated to the art of Jamaican jerk – think of it as a masterclass in flavour that’ll ruin regular barbecue for you forever. Sorry not sorry, backyard grill masters.
Here's the genius part – when you book an all inclusive vacation, you can focus on what really matters: experiencing these incredible events without wondering where your next rum punch is coming from. Because let's face it, the only thing you should be planning is what to wear to the festival!
