Plan the perfect 24 hours in the best Cuban destinations
We love winging it on an all inclusive vacation as much as the next traveller but if we’re being compleeetely honest, it’s better to head to paradise with a plan! With so much to see and do in Cuba, the feeling of FOMO is real but fear not, we’re here to make sure you don’t miss out on some of the best there is on this beautiful island. From the streets of Havana to the sprawling shores of Varadero and plenty of hot spots in between, this is our perfect 24 hours in these Cuban destinations.
Explore an exclusive oasis on Cuba’s Sunshine Coast
It’s the hottest destination Cuba has to offer – literally! Cayo Largo is set off the southern coast of Cuba and available exclusively through Sunwing where disconnecting from the err-day and reconnecting with yourself is top priority. Start the day with a visit to Playa Paraiso, accessible via the convenient – and free – tourist train, where you can dig your toes into truly stunning white-sand shores. Afterwards, head into the pueblo to grab a bite then interact with sea turtles at the local rescue and rehabilitation centre – suhh cute. Cayo Largo, like the rest of Cuba, opens its arms to everyone under the Caribbean sun with 2SLGBTQ+ friendly hotels you’ll definitely want to book this June as your island basecamp, like the adults only Villa Caprice.
Havana good time is what we’re all about
Start your day in Havana right with a tasty breakfast at a Paladar, small family-run restaurants that are growing in popularity in Cuba’s capital. Then, take in magnificent coastal views as you walk along the Malecón, Havana’s famous seaside promenade – careful crossing the street! Recharge with a quick lunch and classic mojito at Hemingway’s favourite bar, El Floridita, a neighbourhood staple since 1817! While you’re in Old Havana, make sure to take a city tour in a classic American car to see as much of this historic city as possible. Cap it all off with a visit to Havana’s crown jewel of nightlife, the Tropicana Cabaret before retiring to charming accommodations at Mystique Habana by Royalton, a boutique hotel close to the city action.
Our perfect day is always a beach day
Varadero is famous across the Caribbean and a Canadian favourite! Stroll along the sprawling coastline until you find the perfect spot to lay down your towel for a day of fun in the sun. A wide variety of non-motorized water sports are offered along the beach, from snorkelling to windsurfing and catamaran rides! If you’re feelin’ snacky, try out one of the local restaurants for an authentic meal or with a day pass, you can grab a bite at one of the all inclusive resorts along the shore. In the evenings, Varadero comes alive with nightclubs and bars to explore before kicking off your dancing shoes at one of the many resorts in the area, like the adults only Starfish Cuatro Palmas!
The name is de Cuba, Santiago de Cuba
Known as the birthplace of the Cuban Revolution, Santiago de Cuba should be on every Cuba enthusiast’s bucket list! Grab a café Cubano and a seat at Parque Cespedes, the beating heart of the city that’s perfect for people watching (yes, we love it) and live music. Take your pick of museums to visit in the afternoon detailing the island’s rich history and stroll through the Plaza de la Revolucion, Castro’s preferred venue for his memorable speeches. If you’re visiting in mid-to-late July, you can join in on Cuba’s biggest and best Carnival celebrations with decked-out floats, food stalls and more! You’re never far from the fun at Melia Santiago de Cuba, a family-friendly resort with everything you need for an unforgettable getaway.
